Role and responsibilities

As Systems Engineer within the Site Reliability Team, you will work to support, maintain and operate the platform behind our flagship products and services, with the opportunity to get involved in building, testing and deploying all aspects of our software and dependencies for our low-level infrastructure components, communicating with network operators globally.

The Site Reliability Team (SRT) are responsible for:

  • The availability, performance, monitoring, and incident response of the production and back office products, platforms and services
  • Providing operational support across the core platforms including testing, improving and maintaining new and existing systems, and working closely with all engineering teams to ensure system consistency
  • Ensuring operational standards are met and relevant documentation, knowledge bases and operational manuals/runbooks are maintained
  • Rapidly resolving incidents and problems following the company’s incident management procedures
  • Managing high profile B2B inbound leads trialling our services and online contact requests
  • Working through a backlog of improvements and maintenance tasks and raising “reliability” projects for larger developments
  • Contribute to engineering roadmaps including key items such as upgrades, technical refreshes and new versions
  • The Site Reliability Team (SRT) are responsible for:

  • Providing in depth expertise on the performance, reliability and availability of software based products and platforms
  • Building and deploying (using automation tools and pipelines) tools designed to reduce the manual work involved in operating the platform
  • Using ‘infrastructure as code’ principles to provide repeatable, reliable & safe methods of deploying and maintaining platforms and software
  • Ensuring high levels of system performance through monitoring, analysis and performance tuning
  • Understanding the low-level behaviour of the end to end platform to ensure the impact of component changes is understood
  • Specification, design and delivery of tools to assist in the monitoring, resilience and support of the platforms
  • Troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks, operating and system management systems
  • Managing solutions across distributed data centres
  • Maintaining all relevant documentation and knowledge bases
  • Mentor and train other members of the Engineering teams to share knowledge and provide training sessions where necessary
  • Updating security programs, initiatives and ensuring they're implemented to minimise risk
  • Protecting the organisation’s value by keeping information confidential and systems secure
  • Escalating application problems to vendors and following up to resolution
  • Testing of disaster recovery and business continuity policies and procedures
  • Providing on call support including out-of-hours incident support on a rota basis to help deliver a high quality of service around the clock
  • Providing additional Support for German language Customers
  • Answering and responding to customer queries (via phone/email/chat)
  • Undertaking the resolution of customer issues and queries
  • Ensuring customers are responded to and are updated within SLA/KPI targets
Skills and experience

Our systems are primarily deployed across Windows and Linux Operating Systems, but we are using and evaluating numerous other technologies too. We’d be interested in candidates who have the following skills/experience:


  • Previous experience of working in an Operations role
  • A good knowledge of Windows Server (2012 R2 preferred)
  • MS SQL Server (Stored Procedures and Queries)
  • Scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash, C# preferred)
  • Exposure to Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery practices
  • Ability to collaboratively work as part of a team, to take ownership of and be accountable for your work
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to continue to learn
  • Strong written and spoken German and English
    • Desirable:

    • Previous experience of a high performance, high throughput messaging based system
    • A good knowledge of Windows Server (2012 R2 preferred) and/or Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS preferred)
    • Scripting/programming languages to assist in automating solutions to common problems (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, C#, Ruby, Python etc.)
    • Knowledge of software delivery technologies (e.g. continuous integration, deployment tools, monitoring software, SDLC tools etc.)
    • An understanding of Agile & Continuous Delivery methodologies
